Mountain Stolovi is located in central part of Serbia, near town Kraljevo. The highest peak of Stolovi is Kamarište (or Usovica),1375 meters high above sea level. Second highest peak is Čiker, 1324 meters high above sea level. Specific narrow ridges, which descend from the top to the foothill valley in all directions, form a star shaped mountain. This offers many possibilities for trekking, hiking, mountain biking and trail running. It is possible to reach the top from multiple directions, on treks of different length, with various fitness and technical requirements. On mountain Stolovi it is possible to make more demanding tours, over 25 km long, and to overcome 1200 meters height difference in a day.
Medieval fortress Maglič from the 13th century.
What makes hiking on this mountain special is the fact that you can see wild horses that live on the mountain. Horses are used to people’s presence and you can approach them with great deal of caution. There are over 30 horse in a herd and the number is constantly increasing, and a society of horse fans “Stolovi” from Kraljevo takes care of them. If you decide to visit Stolovi mid May, you will surely enjoy the smell of Narcissus on endless fields, which grow on over 1000 meters above sea level on this mountain.
Traditionally, over 60 years in a row, on mountain Stolovi in May, a free mountain-recreating tour in honor of Narcissus flowers. The club of mountaineers “Gvozdac” from Kraljevo organizes this tour.
Geographical position of Stolovi, as well as the mountains that surround it, offer excellent possibilities for mountaineering tours which can last more than a day. In the vicinity of Stolovi there are several mountains: Goč, Željin, Studena planina, Kopaonik, Golija, Radočelo, Čemerno, Troglav and so on. The height of these mountains vary between 1000 and 2000 meters above sea level and the treks guarantee memorable experience in unspoiled nature.
We recommend visiting several historic monument which are close by - Orthodox monastery Žiča built in the 13th century, as well as visiting medieval fortress Maglič from the 13th century.
